Our team has extensive experience designing electronic products for established SMEs and multinational companies, offering full product development, including electronic product design, prototype manufacturing, and compliance support. We also provide standalone consultancy, including design reviews, and feasibility studies.
We work across various sectors focusing on regulated industries and safety-critical systems, sensors and IoT-connected devices.
Over the years, we’ve built up a network of trusted partners in the London and Cambridge area, including contract manufacturers, and test labs, to provide an end-to-end service to our clients.
How it started…
In 2015, our founder, Adam, was working as the Engineering Director for Broadcast Sports, and had an idea to design a product that would fill a gap in the market. He founded Ripcord Designs and worked hard with his team to develop this new product.
However, a larger established brand beat them to the market by releasing a similar product first. Despite this setback, Adam and the team used their expertise to help others with their designs and pivoted to being an electronic design consultancy.
Today, we bring our first-hand experience of developing our product to the projects we work on for other companies. We work with a range of technology firms, helping them create functional products to a high standard while providing them with good value.

Meet the management team
Adam Toner, Technical Director
Adam has over 25 years of experience designing embedded electronic products and working as a software architect for a large consultancy. He has worked internationally in the UK and the USA for companies such as Formula One Management, Panasonic, and L3 Communications. Some of the products he has designed include smart heating controls, medical devices, television cameras, wireless video, audio systems, and data systems. Prior to founding Ripcord Designs, Adam helped L3 Communications establish a broadcast products business and served as the Director of Engineering.
Christa Boren, Director of Operations / Business Development
Christa has a diverse background in business development, international mobility, and international higher education. Before moving to the UK in 2011, she served as the Assistant Director of the International Office at the University of Baltimore, where she was responsible for overseeing the global mobility of staff, faculty, and students.
Currently, at Ripcord Designs, Christa plays a vital role in business development, working with new clients and taking care of day-to-day business operations.
